Mysterious "roar" from outer space

I love unexpected discoveries in science.

Alan Kogut of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center says he and his colleagues have discovered a mysterious "booming noise" coming from space that's six times more powerful than all other space radio sources combined.

For now, the origin of the signal remains a mystery.

"We really don't know what it is,"said team member Michael Seiffert of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

And not only has it presented astronomers with a new puzzle, it is obscuring the sought-for signal from the earliest stars.

Well, it's about time they noticed it. ;-)

Published in "A Message for Obama" book!

Cool! My photo got published!

Last November, the Guardian UK newspaper asked Flickr users to submit photo messages for Obama in the wake of his historic election. I participated, and the Guardian selected my image for inclusion in a book they published!

The book has now been published! I have received my copy as a participant. See? There I am on page 44!

Hulu adds a buffer indicator!

SWEEEEEEEET!

Hulu has added a buffer indicator on their video player!

For a user with a fairly slow Internet connection, this is a WONDERFUL addition. Online video tends to stutter on my machine when traffic is high. Now I can click on an episode, walk away, and when it's fully buffered, I can watch it!

Now if only Joost would do this. And South Park Studios.

Oh, incidentally, that screenshot is of "Bones," a show Nate got me hooked on while I've been bedridden.
