Mr. Sulu, set phasers on PWNED!

OMG! George Takei (Mr. Sulu of Star Trek fame) took on
homophobic NBA star Tim Hardaway in a hilarious short PSA!
(You have to see it to believe it)

Congrats on the BoingBoing nod!

And I have to say, when the video first veered off into absurdity, I had a moment of panic: "Oh, god. He's confirming every stereotype - he's going to singlehandedly set back gay rights five years." That fortunately didn't last long. About the time of the evil laugh at the end, the full brilliance of it hit me.

The video is more or less the perfect response to Hardaway. It sucks people in, grabs and holds their full attention -- then takes the unspoken fear at the root of the problem, drags it into the light, and mocks it for the foolish thing that it is. Go Takei!

Thank you! And thanks for the praise on your page. I have been wanting to use the word "PWNED!" in my writing for a while. If this wasn't a "PWNING," it sure looked like it.

It was an incredible move on his part. Like watching a martial arts master. Verbal jujitsu!

And he's a great spokesman. I could think of worse people speaking for me.

Did you see the celebrity roast of William Shatner? Takei boldly took Hikaru places no Capt. Kirk had gone before!

Countering homophobia with laughter. Brilliant!
