Haircut?

So I'm debating buzzing off my hair and donating it to Wigs for Kids, or Locks of Love, or another one of those hair donation organizations. I've read some criticism on Locks of Love, that most hair donated gets sold commercially instead of being given to kids, and the money used to fund hair systems for kids with permanent hair loss, like from alopecia, while Wigs for Kids gives to all kids, including cancer survivors with short-term hair loss.

Anyone have any experience with either organization, or know anything I need to know before making my choice?

UPDATE: Better Business Bureau Standards for Charities

Locks of Love: 19 of 20 BBB standards
Standard unmet: Accountability

Wigs for Kids: 19 of 20 BBB standards
Standard unmet: Program Service Expense Ratio less than 65% (Only 60% of expenses on funding programs).

Right now, I'm leaning more towards Wigs for Kids.

Not sure if I can picture you without long hair. Are you going to trip your beard then too, so people don't confuse you for a rabbi?

Haven't decided. I'm tempted to cut everything the same length: buzz cut all around. Start over growing it out.

Considering that the main material for Wigs for Kids is donated, I don't really see the Expense Ratio as being too much of a problem.

Yeah, much less than the fact that Locks for Love hasn't released its financial records to the BBB. That accountability thing worries me.

Well, how long did it take you to grow in your hair as it is now? I'm all for charity, but I'm curious as to what is inspiring you to do this?

About 4 years, give or take. I haven't cut it since after my last hospitalization. I'm kind of getting tired of it, it gets in the way, and I don't take great care of it. Plus I find hairs everywhere. I don't like wearing it in a pony tail. I was already thinking of donating it.

Then this week, my DVR counselor gave me a push. And she gave me homework: get my hair trimmed, in order to be more employable. Heck, why not go to the extreme? I need a change, and my hair grows out fast enough.

As soon as I can find some clippers to borrow, I'm going Uncle Fester.
