And... we're off and running!
Today was the first day of classes, and despite a bit of a fuck-up on my part last quarter due to a bad case of depression, which has resulted in my being on Academic Probation, and Financial Aid danger as well, I'm optimistic about this quarter.
I'm taking 13 credit hours, in 3 classes:
Physics 101 -- Introduction to Physics (plus lab)
English 302 -- Technical Writing
Fairhaven 397J -- Borderblur: Transnational Transformations in the Americas
I've always wanted to learn more about Physics, astronomy being my first love, but was always frightened by the math part. However, after 2 quarters of doing well in Math, I've decided to try it. It's the last of the GUR (General Undergraduate Requirements) that I need to take. Even better: one of my friends from the campus pagan group is the lab TA.
Technical Writing fulfills my upper-level writing requirement, and I've always been pretty good at translating Geek-to-English, so I think I will do fine there.
That third class looks especially interesting. It's an elective given at Fairhaven College, which means there are no grades, just a "Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory," but still counts towards graduation for me. Given my interest in the ideas of migration and permeability of artificial borders, my desire to immigrate to Canada, and the current political debate around the issue of immigration from Mexico and Latin America makes it a rather topical class that I think I am going to enjoy.
The BIG NEWS for me is the decision to change a new major: General Studies. I can have a 4-year Bachelor of Arts in 3 quarters... meaning I can graduate in December! Yay!
The end is in sight! 21 years in the making... and I'm FINALLY going to get that damn piece of paper!
