Wensleydale Cheese

I just went grocery shopping at Haggen's, and was perusing the imported cheese case, when a stack of small, round, red wheels of cheese jumped out at me.

OMG! Wensleydale!

I just HAD to buy it. I've always wondered what it tastes like. It was expensive - $9.99 for a 200g wheel - and an extravagant impulse buy at that, because I had to pay for it with food stamps, and I'm not even employed yet. But, I'm in the mood to celebrate, and... it's WENSLEYDALE!

Guess what I am having for dinner tonight? ;-)

(Sheesh, I'm just as bad as those kids who make their parents buy a box of cereal just because it has their favourite cartoon character on it.)

The wikipedia page is kind of interesting - apparently the animation saved a cheese that was threatened with extinction. I'm all for that!

Don't know yet, I'm saving it for dinner tonight. I bought it, and a loaf of crusty bread, and a small tube of herbed pork liver sausage, and some grapes. Yummy yummy dinner tonight!

Definitely good.

It's a soft, moist, crumbly cheese, very pale yellow, not unlike crumbly blue cheese in texture. It has a couple of layers of flavour: a subtle white cheese undertone, and a sharp, acidic flavour, not unlike Swiss cheese. Wrapped in wax.

It's good cheese, Gromit!
