After work this evening, I went out to dinner with Mike ([livejournal.com profile] bigmacbear), who is in town for the week, scouting out jobs and living locations in the area. I had never met Mike before tonight, but his partner, Gary ([livejournal.com profile] gmjambear), is an old friend. They live in New York, and are contemplating moving to the Seattle area. I'm thrilled at the idea, because I adore Gary, I look forward to having more friends in the area.

After dinner - spicy Thai food - I took Mike on a driving tour of the greater Seattle area, to show him the layout of the place and point out some interesting areas to look for housing and jobs. Mike has rented a convertible for his stay, so we rode around with the top down, since it wasn't raining.

From Lynnwood, we drove down I-405, through Belleview and then to Renton, where all the high tech companies are (including Microsoft). Then we took I-5 north to Seattle, where I took him on a tour of the gaybourhood of Capitol Hill, pointing out various bars, bathhouses and such. Then it was up to Volunteer Park to the Asian Art Museum, where we got out and stretched and looked through the sculpture that looks out over the Space Needle. Then we hit I-5 again, back north to Lynnwood, completing a big circle around the region. I hope he found the tour helpful, and enjoyed spending the time visiting and getting to know him. He's a great guy. Plus he's handsome to boot! Gary's a lucky man.

I told Mike I'd have several evenings free during the rest of his time in the area, and to give me a call if he wanted to hang out some more before he left town.

I believe I first contacted you by e-mail the same year I met Mike which would be 1998. Personally, it's very interesting how many people I've met 7 to 8 years and still keep in touch with via e-mail and LJ.

Mike mentioned he rented another convertable. He rented a similar car in Tucson. What is this about traveling out west in a convertable? Are we going through a midlife crisis?!?!?

Thank you for giving Mike a tour of the Seattle region. Hope to be in the area in October. Crossing my fingers.

Had to have been 1999 when I met you, because I moved to Augusta on Jan. 5, 1999.

Don't worry about Mike getting to attached to the convertible. They don't sell well in the Seattle area - waaaaayyyyy to much rain to make them practical.

I sure am hoping you guys do move up here. I want you here!

The mind fades when you get older...get me my cane!

I believe I first wrote to you while you were at Kansas State. It was several months before you moved to Augusta. I met you in person in mid-April 1999.

I'm still checking out job sites for openings out there. Wish me luck.

Please see to it that Mike gets to Daly's Drive-In on Eastlake. 2713 Eastlake E, Seattle, WA 98102, 206-322-1918. A cheeseburger and a salmonburger and a raspberry shake. Don't let him argue, just make him do it. He'll understand why it's so important after you take the first bite. (you have been there yourself, right?)

Re: *GASP!*

OK, I'll go when I have some extra money to spend on it, and the gas to drive all the way down there. I'll put it on the list of things to do before I die.
