I went to an Asian buffet for lunch today with some of my DVR classmates, and at the end of the meal, I cracked open my fortune cookie to find this very strange piece of advice:
You may fall into a spell of shininess -- Don't buy it.
"Spell of shininess?" What the hell is "shininess?" I don't get it. Is this some sort of slang I am not aware of? It doesn't even work with adding "in bed" to the end of it!

I wonder if this is related somehow to your dream about the free prize at the giftshop.

Interesting... I never made that connection. It does fit, doesn't it? But does that mean I *shouldn't * choose?

Yeah, when that strikes I usually end up buying a motorcycle.

iPhones are also shiny, and have cast a similar spell over their purchasers.

I see, so it's an anti-materialistic fortune. I can get behind that.

Thanks for clarifying!

Kind of like how I really like driving in cars (they're really convenient), but i'm not dazzled by the latest model or muscle cars, or whatever.
